Chapter 74

“Don’t try to avoid the question.” His voice snapped me out to reality. I didn’t even need to fake my expression as I was sure I put on a stoic expression on my face. Whatever reaction he caught in my eyes –and I was sure he could see my eyes wavering slightly as he was blessed with those incredibly amazing sharp eyes– I wouldn’t deny it.

I had no reason to do so.

So be it, if he wanted to know about Tom. But, I would be passive, just answering his questions. I wouldn’t say anything unless he asked it.

“So, what did she mean? Is there any boys in your dormitory?” Sanji asked. His eyes peered through my eyes, trying to figure out what I was thinking, probably.

“Yes.” I replied. “And no.” I added.

He frowned. “A ghost?” He asked. I was not surprised he would think so. After all, we had one thing in common; sixth sense.

.....

I shrugged my shoulders. Tom was not particularly a ghost, though.

“But, I didn’t see anything attached to you.” His frown deepened.

That’s new, but I guess I was right about Tom was not an ordinary ghost.

“Is he bothering you?”

I shook my head.

“Then why did she mention about him? Do you have any relationship with this particular ghost?”

His eyes were looking straight at me, probably wondering the answer himself by searching for it in my eyes. “I don’t know.” I shrugged again.

“Jane, you know you can tell me anything, right? Don’t hide anything for me. What if it becomes bigger and endangers yourself? I prefer you to tell me anything. Especially since your sixth sense has not been fully opened.” Sanji softened his voice, trying to persuade me.

I held back the urge to roll my eyes. What’s wrong with him now? I had never thought we were that close for me to talk about anything to him. Not even because my sixth sense had not fully awakened. He might want to keep me safe, but I wouldn’t let him do anything for now. He didn’t need to know more about Tom.

“Sure.” I nodded, showing a small smile to him.

Sanji smiled back at me. His smile was so calm and tender, but somehow I had a feeling that he still hid something behind his smile.

“So, when will you treat me to a dinner?” He grinned and again, I felt the invisible flying daggers were thrown towards me.

“I’ll let you know when the time comes.” I smiled. Could those girls summon up their courage and face Sanji directly instead of directing their anger to me?

“I know it is annoying, but bear with it.” He said in a low tone. His grin was still plastering on his handsome face. I needed one second to understand what he meant by that.

His grin turned into a soft smile. “They can be annoying, which is why I still haven’t had a girlfriend until now. Of course, part of it because I’ve already engaged to you, but the thought of having a girlfriend did cross my mind for several times. I hope you don’t mind.” He added the last sentence quickly.

“I don’t mind at all. I mean, I didn’t even know I’m already engaged.” I shrugged my shoulders.

“Well, even though it crossed my mind for several times, I haven’t had a chance to do it. Mostly because these girls put a scary standard on who should I date. Not that I must follow their condition, but they managed to scare the girl I was close with so far.” Sanji let out a bitter laugh.

I was amazed seeing him so calm even though he felt sad with the outcome. He couldn’t sue them for scaring his potential future wife, but he also couldn’t do as they liked.

“Don’t you feel angry?” I asked. “You know, you could pursue the girl and protect the girl from your fans, you know? What if they did something harmful to the girl?”

“Well, that’s the point. I had no idea how they managed to scare those women. They didn’t harm them, not even a bit. But, the next thing I know, the woman whom I was dating had avoided me like I was some kind of disease. I couldn’t even sue them for harming people. That’s why I’ve been thinking, since they wanted to avoid me, then so be it. There’s no point for me to keep chasing after them. I don’t want to waste my time to convince the woman to stay with me. If she doesn’t have the guts to stay with me, I won’t waste my time either.” Sanji explained. There was bitterness in his voice, but his voice laced with determination at his last sentence.

“But again, maybe it was the way my destiny is. I couldn’t find any woman since I have been engaged to you. So, I don’t really feel lost. After all, I still have you as my fiancee, right?” He shot me his beaming smile and for a second, I felt like I was blinded by him.

How could you be so good-looking, Sanji?!

Tom, I’m sorry for admiring another man...
