Chapter 179 - Dollar Signs
Chapter 179 - Dollar Signs
Yvonne watched with a smile as the man who stood by their table consumed the cupcake with relish.
Baron MacIntyre\'s disgusted face when he had first seen the cupcake was nowhere to be found as he ate the new dessert with his eyes closed.
He enjoyed the taste of the dessert and opened his eyes with a frown only after he had eaten it whole.
The simple addition of the fluffy and soft cream which usually went with cakes had made the bland and tasteless cupcake so much better than before.
"Do we have any more of these?" He inquired with excitement and desire apparent in his eyes.
The negative reply he received from the baker made Baron MacIntyre feel regretful that he had not arrived earlier like he daily would.
Today being a special occasion on account of the large and expensive order made by His Majesty, King Ophire, Baron MacIntyre had decided to celebrate with his wife over a lavish lunch and tea.
This plan gave him the excuse of staying back at home instead of coming over to his store like he would every day to inspect it.
Rueing his decision of being absent, he sighed but could only wait until his baker made them all over again tomorrow morning.
The expressions of defeat and regret that Yvonne was gazing on the face of the plump man were exactly what she was waiting to witness.
"Did the Baron enjoy the treat?" She polled while tilting her head to the side in innocent questioning.
The Baron was in a pleasant mood after he had consumed the treat and hence was patient as he answered the child he had never met before today.
"Why of course, Miss St. Claire! My cafe\'s baker has done a brilliant job at this new recipe." He praised the baker and advertised that this treat was solely sold at his cafe.
Raylene was not aware of the little interaction that her daughter had with the baker in the presence of Glennise and Rika, hence she nodded in appreciation of the baker\'s hard work.
\'The new recipe tastes much better than the previous one.\' She agreed with the Baron\'s words and shuddered in disgust as she thought of the previous unsightly cupcake that she had once tasted.
However, the baker and the server knew the truth about the matter which resulted in their faces turning embarrassed after hearing the high praise that their master was giving the baker.
Not wishing to take credit for something that wasn\'t his idea, the baker stepped forward and whispered the entire incident that had taken place into the ears of his master.
The proud look on his face which he had on while praising his servants turned awkward after he heard the actual events that had occurred in his store.
He nodded at the baker, indicating that he knew what to do next, and sent him back to where he had been standing with the server.
The two servants stood behind the man and alternated their gazes between the plump man and the little girl.
"Ha ha… Miss St. Claire has done a great favor for our little cafe today." He expressed his gratitude while flashing her a wide smile.
\'I did not do that to receive your thank you.\' Yvonne scoffed, not pleased with the way he was sounding.
The tone of his words indicated that he was grateful for what she had done and this would be the end of his matter today.
But how could Yvonne let him do as he pleased while trampling all over her?
Therefore, she smirked which appeared as a mischievous smile to the people watching her, and tapped her soft pink lips with her chubby fingers.
"Does the Baron like the new recipe?" She inquired with an innocent look now appearing on her face.
The taste still lingered on his tongue which made it easier for him to respond to her question.
The answer to which was an immediate nod of the Baron\'s head.
"Does the Baron think that this new cupcake would sell among your frequenters?" She quizzed further as soon as he had answered.
The thought of the profit he could make with this new recipe of the cupcake was making his smile grow wider as he nodded once again.
He was already thinking of ways on how to get more patrons to try this new recipe to rake in more money from them to compensate for the previous losses that he had borne for the same cupcakes.
\'He looks like one of those cartoons where their eyes would look like dollar signs when they thought about money.\' She sneered at his greedy face but was ecstatic at the same time to see that money-grubbing face.
"Who was it that gave your baker the idea to improve the old recipe? Was it not me?" She polled as the innocent smile returned to her face.
The angelic appearance even though she was dressed in black made the man nodded once again.
\'That\'s what I had thought!\' She nodded with him, complacency was now visible on her face.
Raylene was surprised to hear that the one who had come up with the new and improved cupcake was none other than her adorable Vonny.
\'When did my Vonny learn about baking?\' She suspected in her heart but did not dare to make her thoughts known at this moment.
Yvonne had noticed the strange look on her mother\'s face and was already prepared to face her questions if she ever had any.
Now, her eyes were on the man as she had one last question to ask.
Baron MacIntyre was getting tired of standing but he did not let his weariness appear on his face as he continued to smile at the child who was interrogating him.
The questions had been coming one after another were making the servants apprehensive of what she might ask next.
Paula had been keeping a close eye on her Mistress\' daughter as she was skeptical of the child\'s involvement in the discovery of the new recipe.
Yvonne had taken enough time before asking the next question which was making the Baron sweat all over again.
He gulped when he saw the little girl sit up straight as she looked him in his eyes though this time the childish playfulness that he had seen earlier was absent.
Yvonne\'s eyes displayed her serious intent that what she was about to say next held importance and value.
"If you have big plans for the new recipe then shouldn\'t the one you gave you the recipe have a share in the profit you make?" She probed as those amethyst eyes bore holes into the sweating man who stood before her.
Baron MacIntyre\'s first reaction just like the previous questions was to nod as that would be the most honorable thing to do.
However, his nod soon came to a halt and a reluctant look replaced the smile that he had on until now.
\'Greedy, greedy, greedy…\' Yvonne chastised the man who was now having second thoughts after she had stated her desire to gain a piece of the profit that he would make in the future.
