Chapter 67 - So Easy To Bait

Chapter 67 - So Easy To Bait

After Marquess Samed\'s repeated warnings about keeping her mouth shut in regards to the Governess Bloom - Grand Duke injury situation, he finally sighed in relief when he saw her obedient acceptance.

\'Who would I even speak to? I stay indoors at all times!\' Yvonne shook her head but she was not complaining about staying inside all the time.

Her plan of staying indoors and away from any major characters in the story was going splendidly so far and she aspired to continue with this plan until the story reached the main timeline.

The story officially began with its whirlwind romance when Hilda, the female lead, comes back to the capital city of Amarthea for her debutante ball at the age of 16.

Hence, all Yvonne had to do was stay away from anything or anyone who might suck her back into the original storyline and make her a part of the drama that would soon ensue after the lead characters meet again.

But right now, her chances of that happening were dwindling as she had managed to ward off the main reason for her involvement in the story, her playmate position.

Sullivan Samed sat in silence, watching this little child who was rubbing her chin and nodding, a gesture common with old people who were reminiscing their glory days which were now long gone.

Thinking of this, a chuckle escaped Sullivan\'s lips before he even knew it and thus broke the daze that Yvonne was trapped in.

She looked up at him with narrowed eyes which made his laughter increase which further incensed the little girl.

"For such a petite girl, you sure act as though you are an old lady." He admitted his thoughts and shook his head.

\'The one thing I hate more than being called \'old\' is being called \'petite\'!\' She glowered without hiding the hostility in her eyes.

Marquess found her reaction to appear out of the ordinary because all girls loved to be called petite and beautiful, unlike this silly student of his.

\'I was a goddess on the runway with beautiful long legs but look at me now! Petite! I\'m labeled \'petite\' now!\' She sobbed inwardly as she continued to glare daggers at her short legs.

This simple sentence of her tutor had ignited a flame in her heart which would soon burn her father, Rutherford\'s heart.

However, for now, she had more important things to bother about rather than her short legs.

She still remembered her piano class with Governess Lester and how she had wept while playing that new musical piece.

Her heart longed to know more about the man who had written that piece and also about the plague that Governess Lester had mentioned.

\'Who better to ask for such information rather than the most intelligent man in the capital?\' She smirked and turned her eyes towards her tutor.

Marquess Samed tilted his head and wondered why she was looking at him with that devious smile.

"Marquess, there is something that I need to ask of you. But I wonder if you would be able to answer me." She questioned his intellect while rubbing her chin.

This statement of hers successfully aroused his competitive tendencies causing him to raise his chin and scoff at her.

"Ask away, you ignorant child." He sneered arrogantly.

\'So easy to bait!\' Yvonne bowed her head to hide the victorious smile that appeared on her face.

Looking up after she had adjusted her expressions, she nodded her head in compliance.

"I want to know everything about the man who wrote the musical piece called \'Tears of our love\'. Can you help me?" She wondered out loud making him snarl at her.

"Of course I can!" He retorted instantly as he had heard much praise about the said musical piece from his sister, Duchess Beatrice who was an avid lover of music and every other form of art.

However, his arrogant smirk froze and soon faded when he tried to recall the details about the composer of the above-mentioned piece.

Yvonne\'s brows rose in amusement as she observed his conflicted face.

"Is there a problem, Marquess?" She frowned slightly while asking this question.

How could Sullivan admit that he had not paid attention to his sister when she had been going on and on about the genius skills of that composer?

\'She was boring me with her babble so I let my mind wander!\' He defended himself inwardly.

Hence he decided to do the most logical thing he could think of in order to not let this smug student of his get a hint about this lack of information regarding this matter.

\'She had doubts about my knowledge in this regard but if she realizes that she was right then she might hold this against me in the future!\' Sullivan refused to accept such a situation to ever arise with any of his students.

"Would you look at the time? We have spent three hours discussing these things." He sighed while shaking his head.

"But we still have-" Yvonne retorted but was cut off by the man with silver hair.

"Time surely flies!" He stressed his words and began gathering his papers.

Yvonne understood that he was trying to escape and decided to let him leave with his pride when she saw him packing his stuff up.

"Marques…" She called out to him just as he was about to leave the room.

Sullivan turned around and looked at her in trepidation of what she might ask next.

"Can we learn about the plague that occurred a few years ago in our next class?" She suggested and got an eager nod from him.

"That lesson is a part of your history syllabus. If you wish to learn about it earlier then I don\'t find any issues with that." He accepted her suggestion readily.

"So tomorrow we shall start a new lesson." He declared and then swiftly walked out of the room before she could ask anything else.

Yvonne chuckled when she saw his hasty retreat and hopped off the couch.

She then strolled towards the large window in leisure steps to watch her tutor\'s departure.

Marquess Samed\'s carriage stood outside their main door and she stood by the window gazing at the carriage which began moving away after Sullivan had entered it.

Soon the carriage disappeared from her sight as it exited the St. Claire estate.

Turning around, Yvonne noticed that her nanny, Mrs. Jacinth had entered the room.

"I\'m hungry, Mrs. Jacinth." She mentioned while rubbing her slightly bulging belly.

The old maid was smitten by her cute actions and nodded her head hurriedly before she came forward to carry the young child in her arms.

\'Today was a good day!\' She remarked as she had not received any new bruises on her fingers and she had managed to witness the smartest man in the capital being at a loss of words.

\'May tomorrow be a better day!\' She wished and giggled as she was led towards her room.
