Chapter 963: Thrown to the Ground

Chapter 963: Thrown to the Ground

At the fountain, with its tail sticking up, Fragrance Yard walked around its territory in a leisurely manner. It poked and prodded the food thrown to it by those around it.

The children feeding it might not necessarily possess a bachelor in zoology and more than three years of experience in rearing a goose. Hence, most of the things the children threw to feed Fragrance Yard were what they liked to eat rather than what the large white goose favored.

Fragrance Yard found this a problem. It had no choice but to spend energy to single out all of the food that was edible and considered delicious to it. It also walked toward the children who gave it food it did not like to chase them away even though its legs were bound by chains. It hoped that it could ensure the quality of its food supply by doing this. Hopefully, one day in the near future, it would wake up to ground full of food instead of inedible things and rubbish.

*Honk honk…*

Fragrance Yard saw a lump of soil being thrown to the ground before it. Not only was it inedible, but it would also pollute the water in its pond. It could not help but become so angry that it extended its wings and opened its mouth, showing its beak with its serrated tongue. It charged toward the person who threw the lump of soil at it without hesitation…

However, the man who threw the lump of soil to it slapped Fragrance Yard’s neck and shoved it away.

Fragrance Yard charged toward him again, and it was shoved away again…

“Hey, who’s the one rearing this goose. Is it edible?” The man was holding another lump of soil in his other hand, and he chuckled provocatively. He looked at Fragrance Yard’s buttocks.

“If it’s edible, it would have been eaten a long time ago. You wouldn’t stand a chance. Alright, quickly come over and put on your helmet. That fierce old man from the Emergency Department is here again.”

“Ah, what a pity. This goose is gigantic. It would taste amazing if we stew it in a metal pot.”

“You have never had your salary deducted before, have you?”

“Don’t talk about this all the time.” When he heard that, the man who was still provoking the large white goose immediately put on his safety helmet and returned to the fenced area. He continued to carry out boring renovation work.

The Emergency Medical Center’s ICU would be located on the other side of the fountain, as this was the only place that had enough space for eight ICU hospital beds, an additional operating theater, and all kinds of facilities.

There were more than ten construction workers, and they were racing against time to complete the renovation of the building. They worked especially hard every time Huo Congjun and his entourage came over.

“You guys are doing a pretty good job. Would you guys be able to complete it in time?”

“Keep going!”

“You’ve worked hard.”

As Huo Congjun looked at the ICU that was already taking shape, he felt so excited that even jumping into the fountain would not be able to extinguish the flame in his heart.

The foreman naturally said what Huo Congjun wanted to hear. People in that industry who were used to building hospital buildings knew that all they had to do was do a good job fooling the doctors. Those who were in control of the progress of the construction were always the medical company who funded the construction and the Medical Affairs Department. Of course, it would not do them any favors to offend doctors either. If they had the misfortune to be on the receiving end of a powerful doctor’s hatred, even if they were able to complete the construction, they would not be able to receive their retainage.

“Why is there a smaller adjoining building at the side? What will it be used for?” Hospital Director Zhou was walking in front of Huo Congjun. She did not know much about the details of the construction, but she had a rough idea of what all the rooms in the building which were under construction would be used for.

“It was Old Zuo’s suggestion. Why don’t you tell her about it, Old Zuo?” Huo Congjun cleared his throat and stood aside so that Zuo Cidian could speak to Hospital Director Zhou.

Zuo Cidian who was walking along with them chuckled and said, “We plan to make the adjoining building you are seeing now a lounge for paramedics.”

Hospital Director Zhou froze for a moment. “Lounge for paramedics? Doesn’t the hospital provide accommodation for the paramedics?”

Zuo Cidian said with a smile, “Regarding that matter, we have also taken public ambulances and ambulances from other hospitals into consideration. After sending patients to the Emergency Medical Center, drivers and paramedics from any ambulance can get some rest in the lounge to drink tea, have some snacks, watch television, and stuff like that.”

Hospital Director Zhou had worked as an emergency medical specialist before, and she immediately understood. “Oh… you guys plan to make it a…”

“Luxurious lounge.” Huo Congjun finished Hospital Director Zhuo’s sentence so that she would not speak the embarrassing truth.

Zuo Cidian was not a person who cared about his image as much as Huo Congjun. He continued. “If there’s a need, there’s a dining area in the lounge for paramedics where we can provide a buffet. Aside from that, we can also equip the area with some computers so that the paramedics can watch movies, listen to music, or play computer games…”

With that, if it were possible, paramedics would try their best to send patients to Yun Hua Hospital.

There were quite a number of emergency medical companies in Changxi Province now. Together with the city council’s Emergency Medical Care Center, the management of ambulances was quite a mess.

Under ordinary circumstances, the patients or their family members could request for a particular hospital. But if they either did not do that or asked the paramedics for a suggestion, the paramedics would definitely prioritize Yun Hua Medical Center which possessed a comfortable lounge for paramedics.

Hospital Director Zhou could not help but smile. “I was worried about whether you guys would have enough patients after the construction of the ICU is completed. It seems that you guys already have plans.”

“As an Emergency Medical Center, we should live up to our name.” Huo Congjun never made any compromises when it came to this.

“You have my support. Now that you guys are a center, there’s no turning back.” Hospital Director Zhou’s expression became a little more solemn. “The surgical volume and number of patients treated must be increased, and money is also a consideration. But when it came to the number of staff members, you guys still have to try to keep it down. The Emergency Medical Center is now the largest department in the hospital. If you add more staff members, other department directors would have something to say about it.”

“They’re also going to comment if we don’t hire more staff members.” Department Director Huo snorted a few times and continued, “Now that we’re building an ICU, if there are insufficient staff members, we won’t be able to run the ICU properly.”

“Hm… I reckon that the ICU Department won’t allocate that many staff members and resources to you either.”

Huo Congjun said nonchalantly, “We don’t need that. I plan to hire someone from another hospital, but I have not encountered any good candidate for the time being.”

Huo Congjun looked at Hospital Director Zhou as he spoke.

Hospital Director Zhou smiled. She lowered her head and thought about it for a moment. “Alright, then. When the time comes, I’ll hook you up with a few candidates. By the way, regarding the lounge for paramedics, it’s an extremely brilliant idea. It doesn’t take much money, and it should be very effective. Doctor Zuo is a clever person indeed.”

Compared with the ICU that had to be equipped with all kinds of facilities and equipment, the cost-effectiveness ratio of the lounge for paramedics was definitely a lot higher.

Zuo Cidian flashed a shy smile. “I’ve carried out some surveys together with Doctor Ling, and I feel that this lounge for paramedics is very important.”

“Very clever indeed.” Hospital Director Zhou praised Zuo Cidian again. She then looked around and said, “Speaking of Ling Ran, is he operating on the patients? I saw that the hospital beds in your department are full, aren’t they?”

“A patient suffering from cardiac trauma came in just now, and because we ran out of hospital beds, we transferred him to the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery and sent him straight to the operating theater.” Huo Congjun paused for a moment and continued, “Ling Ran followed them there to take a look.”

Hospital Director Zhou did not see anything wrong with the first part of what Huo Congjun said. No matter what the reason was, it was reasonable for the Emergency Department to transfer a patient to another department. But what was with the second part?

“Ling Ran went to the operating theater of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery?” Hospital Director Zhou asked to confirm things.

“Yes.” Huo Congjun sighed.

“Aren’t you worried that they would eat Ling Ran up?”

“They wouldn’t have to resort to this,” Huo Congjun said a little diffidently, “Ling Ran said that he’s just taking a look.”

“And you believe in him?” Hospital Director Zhou sighed. “Let’s go over there and take a look together in case any trouble arises.”

Hospital Director Zhou put on a concerned front, but he was ready to grab a box of popcorn and watch the scene unfold.
