Chapter 722. What He Saw There

Chapter 722. What He Saw There

[Olga defeated. Determining compensation.]

There were three things left behind when Meses died. And even though Davey hadn’t used Shadow Predation yet, he had found the random box to be quite useful.

[The power of destruction has weakened due to the death of Olga, the Malicious Spirit of Disease. Determining compensation accordingly.]

After the message appeared, something fell on the ground.

Thud!

"What... Are you kidding me?" Davey said.

It was a mysterious seed. While it didn’t seem to be immediately useful, its unique shape and the energy it was emitting set it apart from any ordinary seed. So Davey carefully wrapped it before storing it in his Pocket Plane, thinking that it couldn\'t be just any seed.

[Davey, there isn\'t much adamantium, but there\'s quite a bit of orichalcum. Other than that, there are small jewels as well.]

Perserque contacted Davey, informing him that she already had everything that Olga had dropped. Although he was a bit disappointed in what Olga offered, he still considered it a win.

"Great job. Get out of there right away."

The next step was to sort through what Antares had left. Davey believed it must have left a few things behind, even if its whole body evaporated.

[The Origin of Antares. Absorbs extreme power.]

A unique power seeped into Davey, and he could tell that it was Neltarid\'s divine power, not Goddess Freyja\'s. Given that the Malicious Spirits were Neltarid\'s creations, the source of their power was directly linked to his.

But the power that permeated Davey eventually disappeared completely.

[Acquired the title Destroyer.]

Davey quickly activated his status window to see his new title.

- Destroyer

Atlantis, the one who resists the god with the power of destruction. This power is gained by defeating the bull Antares.

When wearing this title, the user’s physical ability continues to increase. The maximum increase is based on the power of the Malicious Spirit Antares at its highest level. On the other hand, the duration depends on the user\'s capabilities. This title cannot be unlocked for the second time.

"Not bad,” Davey muttered. He then changed his title from Starbreaker to Destroyer without the slightest hesitation. Although it had less versatility than Meses’s Shadow Predation, it was the best title he could possibly have, given that he didn’t have a reinforcement title he could use regularly.

The one thing he was concerned about was how the effect wasn\'t immediate but would only apply gradually after he equipped the title.

Antares had taken a fatal blow when he was fighting Davey. This had come as a relief for Davey because he knew that using only physical strength against Antares would have been next to impossible.

As soon as Davey equipped the title, he felt energized. Not only did he feel an increase in his physical strength, but he also felt that his other abilities improved. With the changes, he couldn’t help but think on how he could benefit from his enhanced self and make full use of it.

“I think I have the perfect body to withstand the recoils of gambling,” he snickered.

All in all, Davey knew that the changes were good for him.

After watching the bodies of the two Malicious Spirits disappear, he turned his attention to the others, who were blankly looking at the battlefield.

But then terrible pain and an immense bout of dizziness suddenly struck him. It caused him to briefly wonder if the pain was caused by his absorption of the powers of the two Malicious Spirits. But he ended up quickly concluding that the pain came from Taboo’s Karma.

‘But why now?’ Davey thought.

Taboo’s Karma, which had been quite difficult to use after he awakened as a demigod, had evolved to suit him. That was why he thought that there was no reason for Taboo\'s Karma to go on a rampage at that moment. But the pain was so severe that it was difficult for him to think straight.

“Ugh...”

Davey knelt down, trying his best to not completely collapse on the ground. As he endured the pain, Davey let out so much force that his fingernails almost broke. Meanwhile, his body sporadically flashed crimson fissures. It didn\'t take long for his body to give in and collapse. As he was falling and about to hit the ground, he saw Perserque from afar, rushing toward him.

“Help..."

But the headache was just so terrible that it knocked Davey out.

When a person reaches a certain level, they have trouble sleeping deeply because they become sensitive to even the smallest sounds, and this could lead to mental fatigue. But there were ways to ease that weariness and make the situation better for someone who was beyond human. Still, there would be a downside: the frequency of their dreams would drastically decrease.

Dreams provided rest for the brain—a period of time when the backbone of a human wasn’t completely shut off. The human brain would organize one’s usual thoughts and desires, often portraying them in their original or even opposite forms.

In Davey’s case, he didn’t dream too much. But this time was different.

“A lucid dream. This is nuts,” Davey said.

In a daze, he lifted one hand and bent his fingers with the other. There was no way he could feel any pain. He was just floating in his dream, akin to a soul.

A lucid dream was a dream in which a person was conscious of their dreaming state. That was exactly what he was experiencing at the moment.

‘Why is this happening? Wasn’t I...’

"Wait... Why am I lucid dreaming?" Davey wondered.

He couldn\'t even remember how he had fallen asleep. He looked around blankly before taking off across the vast field. He aimlessly flew for quite some time until he eventually spotted a small temple in the distance.

“The outcome may be the same, but my methods are different from yours,” a voice said.

Davey listened closely as the voice continued, “I will challenge myself hundreds and tens of thousands of times to see if I can break these wretched chains with the power that arose from your mistakes.”

The calm voice was then cut off.

Even with his keen hearing, Davey could not clearly make out the voice, but he could feel that someone was saying something from the other end. It seemed as though his body was refusing to listen to the voice at all.

Just as Davey was about to get closer to listen more closely, he heard the voice again, which stopped him in his tracks.

“Rinne died after embracing you, and my older sister will never wake up again. Eclipse fell into the Abyss herself to suppress them. How... How much more...”

Thud!

As if he was no longer allowed to listen to the voice anymore, Davey felt like his soul was being thrown out. He went flying without much resistance and ended up lying on the ground in a daze, closing his eyes in silence. When he opened them again, he saw a pair of bleakly blue eyes looking down at him.

“Master Davey, Rinne determines that your vital signs have returned to normal. She regards Master Davey’s recovery,” Rinne said before flying up.

Davey then noticed the darkened room that he was in. Feeling something on his fingertips, he looked down and saw Aeria\'s flowing turquoise hair. She was asleep and gripping his hand tightly. He wondered why she wasn\'t waking up, considering that she was a beastfolk with sensitive hearing.

“Where am I?” Davey asked.

Rinne looked at him. “It has been four days and ninety-six hours since Master Davey’s sudden fainting. We are currently in Asgard’s cabin.”

Davey stood up and looked at Aeria, who was sleeping soundly. His body felt very comfortable, and it seemed as if he had grown stronger than before.

The synchronization speed of his body and soul had been extremely slow recently. But for some reason, a significant amount had gotten synchronized.

He silently picked up Aeria and carefully laid her on the bed. Then he looked out the cabin window and saw a ruined land below.

“Is this Arab airspace?” he asked.

“After Master Davey’s fainting, Rinne moved Asgard here and transferred Master Davey. Rinne feels confident about her quick actions,” she replied.

"Okay, thanks. What about Perserque?"

“She is checking the condition of the earthling that Master Davey saved.”

“Is it necessary for her to check their condition?”

“Rinne cannot give a clear answer to that.”

Feeling as if he might remember anything, he spent some time thinking about it. He searched through his memory, and he seemed to recall a few words from his dream, but they were quite hazy.

“I’ll come back after getting some air.”

The most memorable bit was the man’s last word: Eclipse.

There was no way he could forget that name.

Davey stood on the deck of Asgard in silence and turned his head.

“I guess he came because he had something he wanted to say,” he mused.

At that moment, a butterfly suddenly swooped in from behind. It fluttered its wings as it went around him in circles, but it suddenly turned into pieces with a popping sound.

The butterfly made of light had left Davey in a daze, although it had already disappeared. It looked so beautiful against the night sky.

Then a small boy, donning short hair and a unique outfit, appeared. He looked at Davey with a face full of worries and asked, “Why do you see us as enemies?”

“Start by introducing yourself. You, boy, have no respect for adults,” Davey retorted.

“In terms of age, you’re younger than me,” the boy replied with a smile.

Davey briefly clicked his tongue.

“Do I need a reason to protect myself?”

“Hmm... I see.”

“If you showed up here, I guess you’re here to put an end to things. Or did you come here believing that, since I had fallen, this was your chance?"

“No matter what the outcome is, we just follow god’s will.”

Davey sighed when he heard the boy’s response.

According to Kain, most of the Atlanteans, or simply the Malicious Spirits, were bald. Yet the boy had hair.

“I just wanted to talk to you. Because there is no turning back now,” the boy said.

“If you have something to say, don’t waste my time. There’s no way we can truly communicate because we’re not going to listen to each other anyway.”

“I had no intention of listening in the first place.”

“I didn’t know that the number one Malicious Spirit these days talked this much.”

“How did you know?”

”Because I have a hunch, kiddo.”

The boy quietly closed his eyes at Davey\'s comment.

“Have you ever thought about the reason why the Abyss and us, the Malicious Spirits, have to rebel against Goddess Freyja, the creator of the world?”

Davey remained silent.

Quietly, the boy continued, “Hold hands with me, Davey O’Rowane. Remove the stigmata and resist god. Then everyone can have a different future.”

Davey continued to keep his silence.

His dream had already confused him enough. And yet now, there was a boy saying such astonishing things to him, leaving him bewildered.

But Davey was sure he wouldn\'t change his mind, no matter how many times the boy tried to persuade him. He was already annoyed enough. But his annoyance only grew when he realized that this was all the boy could say in this situation.

“Get lost. I know you\'re all cornered, but I will kill you all in my own way and protect myself and everyone around me.”

“Even if it means ignoring the right values as a human?”

“I don’t care about what values are right or not at the moment. My life is the most important thing in the world. My life is the most important thing in the world. If you try to destroy my life, I have no choice but to kill you.”

There was no room for negotiation in the first place.

“...”

The boy, who was silent for a moment, eventually turned into light and became a butterfly. Then he flew up slowly and said, “We’re ready for you. If you’ll be hostile to us until the end... that’s alright. Let’s see who laughs at the end.”

After watching the boy disappear, Davey turned his head away. He thought about what the boy meant when he said they were ready for him.

It was only later on that he realized what the boy meant.
