Chapter 655

Chapter 655

"The person who went out on a blind date with me suddenly collapsed and fell into a coma right after you approached him. They said his life is not in danger, but I think it happened immediately after you approached him."

"It seems that guy received retribution."

Hyun-Ah did not look convinced by Davey\'s indifferent words. Even then, she did not comment about it. Instead, she said, "Well... Honestly, I was wondering how to get rid of him, but thanks to you, it seems I got my way."

"You don\'t seem to have a nice personality either."

"Hmph. I never asked for your opinion,” she retorted before falling silent.

However, the quiet did not last long as she broke it after a couple of seconds by saying, "But it\'s true that things have gotten a bit complicated. It was unnecessary meddling."

"I did nothing."

"Yeah, yeah, of course."

The reason she left that so-called blind date was simple.

Although she was almost like an heir to the prestigious international corporation, Sacred Group, she didn\'t want the company\'s assistance to accomplish what she wanted to do right now—a medical volunteer foundation. Without entirely relying on Sacred Group’s power, she intended to launch and run a medical volunteer foundation with her own independent capital and the company’s minimal support.

"The fool who knew nothing but to study had grown up this much..."

"What did you say?"

"Nothing," Davey retorted tersely before he slowly flew up.

"Hey, can I fly too?"

"You dream big."

She smiled faintly and retorted, "Why not?

After saying this, she got back into the car and said quietly, "In the past..."

Did she become sentimental?

Hyun-Ah’s lips parted, then she went on to say, "In the past... I once told my older sister that I wondered if there would come a day when people could fly through the sky without airplanes."

"Dreams are called dreams because they are not achieved."

"Maybe. But I never knew I would get to live like this." She smiled bitterly.

A moment later, the voice of the young man, who sat in the front seat, crackled through the speakers as he talked to her through the car’s phone. "Miss."

"What is it, Kim?"

"The police have something to inquire about an incident from you."

"From the police?"

"Yes, they are being quite cautious. It involves someone from the Go Sung Company."

She held her tongue for a while, as she considered setting off a tirade if she were about to do something unnecessary.

However, she was Hyun-Ah—the foolishly kind younger sister Davey had known to have grown over the years.

"Is there any reason to hesitate? Contact the legal team to make sure that the company does not face any problems and that Yu-Na and Ji-Ah receive as much compensation as possible," Hyun-Ah calmly instructed.

"I will do my best."

After hearing the response from the man, she hung up and remained silent. She did not say a single word throughout the car ride that was heading to the area where she first met him. Originally, she mentioned visiting this place once or twice a year. Though she usually lived in a large house in the city, she deliberately brought Davey here.

"Columbarium?"

"Yes, I was curious about something," she replied vaguely.

He followed her into the columbarium, which felt slightly different from what he remembered. Inside, the interior that welcomed them seemed to be designed for a single person\'s columbarium.

At that moment, Hyun-Ah\'s words struck him like an unforgiving bolt of lightning.

"Brother, I\'m here."

Just those words were enough to stupefy him into a frozen state.

But Hyun-Ah ignored this. She proceeded to turn on the light and tidy up the surroundings.

"What are you doing? Not coming in?"

"A columbarium for one... I can\'t understand the psychology of rich people."

"This columbarium wouldn\'t have been possible if my uncle hadn\'t helped. I wouldn\'t have even thought about it," she replied calmly.

"Is it for someone you knew?"

"Yes, it was made for this one person. The urn stored here is the only one,” she explained as she took the urn out and stroked it gently.

"A beloved person?"

"Beloved... Well, it\'s someone I always fought with," she murmured with a self-mocking smile. "We always fought, calling each other squid, octopus, whatever."

She chuckled, sounding as if she were reminiscing and yearning about something. "But I realized later that even if you don\'t know the value of what you have, you’ll know it from the emptiness when it\'s gone," she said softly as her eyes welled up with tears.

"Family?"

"Yes, he was my brother. I had one sister and one brother who was older than me. Now I\'ll be alone, but..."

Davey felt something heavy inside him.

"But it seems you don\'t know."

"My brother\'s name was Hyun-Su, Shin Hyun-Su. Although he had a bad temper, he really loved his family... Our brother, who was three years older." As she stroked the urn, her voice then took on an odd note as she asked, "Can you meet my brother?"

"What?"

"You said you\'re a Grim Reaper. So I invited you here. You can see spirits, can\'t you?"

"Now? It must\'ve been quite a while since he died."

"Right. Unless he reincarnated. If there\'s a heaven..."

She fell silent for a moment, seemingly contemplating something. When she spoke again, her voice took on a cautious lilt that displayed a hint of her anxiety. "Can you call my brother?"

A tear dropped unexpectedly from her eyes.

"My brother... whom I always fought with but who was beloved..."

"Listen," Davey said calmly. "Let go of your attachments."

"Is it impossible?"

Many people die and become spirits even as we speak. And yet, you want me to find one who died years ago? Are you a fool to hang on to the impossible?"

At his question, she glared at him bitterly. "Don\'t speak carelessly!!"

Then, as she held the urn dearly, she screamed at him, "The first time we met, you said you were a Grim Reaper! Right then and there, I thought I\'d sell my soul to see my brother just once!"

Davey felt a surge of emotion.

It was a matter from more than a millennium ago. So why did it still cause such harrowing heartache? And for that reason, he had to be even harsher and more spiteful.

"How foolish. People die eventually. That\'s a decree of heaven. It’s immutable."

"Funny!! Do you intend to say that a person\'s life is predetermined?!"

“Holding onto any emotional attachment for someone who is already dead is the dumbest thing one can do,” Davey remarked.

This sparked a tense reaction from Hyun-Ah. Her lower lip fell victim to her teeth as she bit it so hard that it almost seemed like her bite would wound her lip and draw blood.

Silence settled heavily amid the strained air between them. Hyun-Ah then scathingly cut through the silence as she asked, “What do you know?”

“The Grim Reaper sees everything.”

Seemingly losing all her control, her voice got heavily ladened with her emotions as she screamed, “Don\'t be ridiculous!!!”

Her feelings continued to spill right in front of Davey as she went on to yell, “What do you know?! My brother... Even though we fought all the time, he was the most precious person to me! But we fought... We had a fight where we told one another to never see each other again... I didn’t even have the chance to say sorry to him...”

Her voice was trembling when she spoke, until eventually, sobs of indescribable sorrow came out of her lips as she tried to say more.

“I could not say I was sorry... I could not even be there at his deathbed... sob... sob... I could not even show him the test results I had prepared to surprise him with... My brother... My brother...”

Her cries went on, pouring out all the grief and regret that her heart had held for so long. Hearing what she had to say and seeing her in such pain ultimately made Davey realize how he actually knew nothing about her. He had been stupid to think that time would make her forget him.

“Ah...”

When Davey came to his senses, he was already embracing her as she continued to cry while clutching the urn.

“Hyun-Su’s spirit has been kept safely in your heart. He has reincarnated into a better place where he is loved.”

“Sob... Sob...”

In the end, she burst into another wave of tears in his arms.

As he watched his sister suffer and cry in agony, Davey found himself unable to properly express that he was her brother, that he had listened to her, and that he did not want her to cry any longer because of him.

Whether he hid his existence or not, it seemed meaningless to Davey now that he realized that she was still clinging to him. Yet he remained silent. The urge to immediately tell her he was her brother surged when he saw her tears, but he instinctively knew that revealing himself would break the limits of divine interference allowed by Neltarid. It would spiral fate and its flow into chaos, and this would inevitably burden her.

And so, it was with inexplicable bitterness that Davey silently embraced the unreachable her, until her guards, sensing something off, entered the columbarium.

* * *

“Davey has been drinking every day for a few days now. Surprisingly, the internal management of his territory is still impeccable, according to Professor Gorneo. But he mentioned that such behavior could severely harm his health.”

The remark Illyna made while she was having tea with Perserque, caused a bitter expression on Perserque’s face.

It was then that Illyna suddenly felt that something was off. This led her to gently ask, “Sister, is something wrong?”

“Hm? It’s nothing.”

“It doesn’t seem like it’s nothing to me. What do you think, Caldeiras?”

At her words, the brooch on her chest glowed.

“Perserque, what exactly happened? With that human?”

“Ah, Caldeiras. It’s nothing serious. Davey is just confused, that’s all,” she explained plainly. But even as she said so, Perserque’s face had visibly paled.

“Sister, is it related to this incident?”

Perserque hesitated at her question.

“Davey... He said he lived in a place called Earth in his past life. I found out recently. While talking to the foreigners. They said they came from Earth.”

“...”

“Did Davey... Did he meet his younger sister there?” Illyna asked with a somber tone, seemingly sounding like recalling that moment saddened her.

“This is the first time I’ve seen Davey in such anguish... It was shown to him by the King of Judges in the World of Judges.”

Perserque fell silent for a brief moment.

“Her name was Shin Hyun-Ah. He denied it, but... Davey appeared to be full of regrets then. As if he had something he desperately wanted to say to her.”

Illyna’s eyes began to well up with tears.

“This is because of that incident, right?”

Perserque did not respond.

It was simply stubbornness. Usually, Davey would rationalize and outright say he was her brother. That was his way and the Davey she knew. Yet the current circumstances made his behavior not only incomprehensible but also heart-rending.

“This matter should be left to Davey to handle.”

It was meaningless to initially claim that interfering was not an option.

“We’ll have to let Davey deal with it,” Perserque asserted once more.

“But...”

“There are things you should not interfere with when it comes to loved ones, Illyna,” Perserque advised, which led Illyna to finally keep silent about her concerns.

Unknown to them, someone had overheard their conversation.

“Shin Hyun-Ah? Could it be the reason why Sir Davey was asking about Miss Hyun-Ah...”

Eavesdropping from behind the door, Ji-Ah trembled, unable to control her quivering as she held onto her arms tightly.

“Then... he knows?” Ji-Ah wondered. Because she had already heard from Yu-Na once that Hyun-Ah’s remaining family member, her sister Shin Yeon-Hee, had begun to show the symptoms of the same disease that had claimed her already deceased brother.
