Chapter 365: Remodeling the Death God

However, the dwarfs, amicable allies of the gnomes, have a keen interest in exploring ancient civilizations. The dwarf capital of the Light Faction possesses the largest archaeological hall in this world.

Through their research and exploration, the dwarfs discovered that they are, like the gnomes, creations of the Titans.

The dwarfs are originally of the same race as the mountain giants, stone elemental beings, whereas the gnomes are mechanical beings.

Sealed beneath the earth since the Titans’ departure, they were cursed by the ancient gods, who begrudgingly accepting their defeat, released the Curse of Flesh upon them.

Thus the dwarfs and gnomes became the first carnivorous beings.

These two races are now very close. When the gnome capital encountered problems, most of the gnomes relocated to the dwarf capital.

If you didn’t know better, upon visiting the gnomes’ territory and seeing the mountain forts and fortresses, you might think you’d arrived in the land of the dwarfs instead.

Of course, this place is saturated with a mechanical ambiance.

Messy wires, live streetlights, and numerous mechanical items indicated to Li Yao that he was in the right place.

The area was still brightly lit at night. Two gnome guards on mechanical birds stopped Li Yao as he approached the entrance, asking, “Where are you from?”

At this moment, Li Yao had disguised himself as a white-bearded gnome. He chuckled, “I’m a travelling merchant, my supply robot broke down, so I came to the town to have it fixed.”

As he spoke, Li Yao proudly displayed his shambled robot.

“Brother, did you run into those damned undead?” one of the guards asked sympathetically.

Li Yao sighed, “Yeah, those undead are becoming too haughty. I barely survived to get here, seeing you guys brings me relief. Finally, I can get a peaceful sleep.”

One of the guards stayed at the entrance as the other walked with Li Yao, pondering, “You’re not getting any younger. Why not retire at your hometown instead of striving for that little extra money, it’s too dangerous.”

Li Yao sighed again, “Years ago I suffered an injury which became worse in the cold. I could manage it when I was younger, but now I can’t take it anymore. So I plan to settle here. I heard there’s a shortage of supplies here, so I brought some goods planning to make some money and settle down. But instead, I lost my capital in the process and now I have to work hard for a few more years, alas.”

As he spoke, Li Yao sighed with a sorrowful air, as if someone had brought up a delicate subject.

The guard comforted Li Yao while showing him around, instructing him on which inn to stay in. After booking a room, he guided Li Yao to the engineering laboratory which one could rent.

They walked and talked, and by the time they reached the laboratory, fifteen minutes had passed.

As they were about to part ways, the guard suddenly asked, “Right, how’s the excitement for the Dusky Snow Festival this year?”

Keeping a poker face, Li Yao responded, “Dusky Snow Festival? When did we start celebrating that? You must mean the Mechanical Festival, but that’s still four months away.”

“Oh, haha, look at me, getting all confused. Never mind me, carry on with your stuff.” The guard chuckled apologetically and then walked away.

Once he was past the corner, he pulled out a Communication Stone and said, “Confirmed, not a spy.”

With a nonchalant demeanor, Li Yao entered the laboratory, albeit with a lump in his throat. Seeing the enthusiasm of the guard, he knew his identity had been doubted.

The guards spent fifteen minutes supposedly having a casual conversation, but every word was filled with probing undertones.

This was the difficulty in executing spy missions: you couldn’t just infiltrate a race’s territory just because you could disguise yourself as that race.

If Li Yao had not survived a past life knowing plenty of insider information and secrets, he would have been exposed at the start.

That’s why a lot of places had high-price spy missions, even though few players could accomplish them. Players nowadays understand not to accept spy tasks, or else it would result in instant death.

Bear in mind, dying in enemy territory would only allow one to respawn at a graveyard, a loss too significant to bear.

The final question from the guard could have easily given away anyone who hesitated. But Li Yao was well-versed in all the races, and he wouldn’t be fooled by such little tricks. He successfully passed the guards’ inspection.

As Li Yao walked in, he was greeted by a gnome who asked, “What service do you need?”

Gnomes did not distinguish high from low based on power, but on their achievements in studying technology. Yet, the most notable achievement was age.

Therefore, the female gnome greeting Li Yao did not belittle him due to his lower status.

Li Yao flicked his finger, and a series of silver coins buzzed out. The gnome female swiftly caught them.

“I want to rent a mechanical laboratory, preferably making mechanical birds. And the rest is your tip.”

“Thank you, you are indeed generous.” The hostess was visibly overjoyed; it only costs five silver coins to rent a laboratory for a night, she had hit the jackpot.

“This is the best laboratory around here, fully equipped. Look here, all kinds of materials with clearly marked prices. Whatever you want to use, just pay and it’s yours.” The female gnome finished her introduction and happily left.

Li Yao closed the lab door, then took out the Death God 4000 and the broken transport robot.

Without wasting any time, Li Yao began on the Death God 4000 modifications.

He was still under level twenty and didn’t dare to use iron ore as a substitute. Otherwise, he might not have been able to summon his pets . Li Yao only slightly combined the two robots.

For instance, the space storage bins on the robot’s body. The robot was ruined, but the storage bins were firmly intact. Li Yao managed to repair them for further use.

Li Yao also added storage bins to the passenger area. But only two could fit, nevertheless, Li Yao was quite satisfied. He was not planning to become a wandering merchant anyway, four storage bins were more than enough for him.

Two on the back, and two in the passenger area. Putting the equipment on, although it no longer could carry passengers, it had a considerably large storage space.

Each storage bin has fifty squares and could store medium-sized goods. Li Yao no longer needs to worry about running out of supplies.

Additionally, Li Yao installed two available propulsion devices onto the Death God 4000.

This high-end equipment was beyond his crafting capabilities at the moment, and even if he managed to get to the Undercity, there was no way he could install it, he could only rely on gnome tools to get it done.

Below was a crucial step, weapon modifications.

The Death God 4000 was indeed not weak, but it had several issues. The most significant being the attack disruption. When the skills were on CD, it basically became useless.

This was initially overlooked by Li Yao, and it was mainly why he did not particularly like using the Death God 4000.

Now Li Yao was going to modify it to become a remote attack machine.

It never was a feasible tank to begin with, and had already been installed with a propulsion device. It could entirely serve as a long-range Firepower Torrent.

Li Yao removed the two flying wheels and built a mechanical arm. Then he installed two devices onto the mechanical arm to accommodate the placement of his two weapons that he did not frequently use…

PS: I’m going to continue writing. It’s stormy outside, and the power might be cut off. If not, I’ll keep posting…
