Chapter 808 Four Pillars: An Unsolved Mystery
Seeing that Vaughn had become silent, the gears in Valyr\'s mind continued to turn as he scratched his first thought. \'That\'s definitely impossible. According to the book I read from the Myriad Archives, I have parents who gave birth to me.\'
\'Plus, it wouldn\'t make sense for a direct beneficiary of an experiment like that to appear over a hundred thousand years since its inception.\'
If one were to take into consideration the three major ages humanity has gone through so far, that would equate to over tens of thousands of years in terms of time passed.
Add in the event that was the Great Cataclysm, that number could increase to over a hundred thousand years if it were a conservative estimate, a couple or a few hundred thousand years if it were more realistic.
Naturally, Vaughn\'s attempts at recreating humanity from scratch would land in between the Great Cataclysm and the Age of Darkness, which brought Valyr to that conclusion.
With that, the young man mulled over the man\'s words for a bit longer, discarding all of the outlandish thoughts in his mind such as him having hibernated for an extreme length of time.
In the end, Valyr came to a conclusion that made the most sense to him, looking at Vaughn before him with confidence in his eyes.
"By being one of the successes of that experiment, you mean that I\'m a descendant of the original humans created from that experiment, right?"
In response, Vaughn opened his mouth as the gears in his mind began to turn.
Though, just as he was about to speak, the man closed his mouth for a bit before deciding to nod with a slightly awkward chuckle. "Yeah… I guess you could interpret it that way."
With the man\'s choice of words, Valyr could not help but find the response a bit suspicious.
Reading between the lines, he surmised that there was another way to interpret Vaughn\'s earlier words, though he wasn\'t sure how.
With that, the young man merely nodded in response as Vaughn told him that he could continue to ask more questions.
Taking the opportunity to learn more about the inheritance and the Triad Gates to its fullest, Valyr decided to first ask the man why the levels of technology available within the Triad Gates did not match up with the average level of technology in the outside world.
Being asked to clarify what he meant by his words, the young man asked Vaughn as to why the level of technology in Veldanyr still remained around the end of the Early Middle Ages if even someone like him could access technology up to the First Industrial Revolution.
Now understanding what Valyr wanted to know, a faint grin appeared on Vaughn\'s face.
"Did you know that out of all the groups that have entered the Four Pillars\' Inheritance so far, your group is among one of the very rare few that decided to kill more aberrations than necessary?"
"So, you\'re telling me…" At that point, Valyr more or less understood.
Vaughn nodded as if he was reading the young man\'s thoughts. "I don\'t know what was being told to the groups before entering this place, but most, if not all of the groups that have entered so far were only satisfied with searching the area."
"Some did fight against the aberrations, but only because they were left with no choice if they didn\'t want to die."
"Then, just about 20 or so groups before so, the trend of ascending to the next class rank to increase the amount of mana in this place had become more widespread."
"However, with how all of the aberrations grew stronger in relation because of that, those groups decided that it was better to be safe than sorry." Ending his explanation, Vaughn let out a somewhat disappointed sigh.
On the other hand, a slight frown appeared on Valyr\'s face as he recalled all of the things that were told him to about the Four Pillars\' Inheritance before entering the place.
For one, the minimum requirement to enter the Four Pillars\' Inheritance was to have a Legendary production class while still being at the peak of Rank 2.
Though the level of strength one would have thanks to a Legendary grade class was somewhat lacking when compared to a Mythic grade class like his and the others, it would still be more than enough for them to fight against a rank above their own without much problem.
Finding it a shame that the past groups did not make use of the inheritance to the fullest, the young man let out a sigh as he briefly recalled a memory from the very beginning of their journey into the Four Pillars\' Inheritance.
"Now that I think about it… what\'s with the announcement of the 100% of the Shattered Lands of the Four Pillars being opened at the very moment we entered the inheritance?"
"Something to do with the rarity of one\'s main class," Vaughn said concisely. "The level requirement is consistent at the peak of Rank 2. Though, if the group has at least one Legendary grade class among them, then the entire inheritance could be accessed."
"Conversely, the lower the highest rarity class in the group is, the less parts of the inheritance could be accessed."
"However, even with limited access, one would still be able to access the Gates of Enlightenment at the very least," said Vaughn with a shrug.
"Was any group in the past successful in entering the Gates of Enlightenment?" asked Valyr in response.
Vaughn nodded back. "There was. Only one group, though. The group that entered about 35 groups before you guys did."
"If I remember correctly, the leader of that group was named… Riekan, I think."
Hearing a name he had not heard for a long time come out of the man\'s mouth, a slightly amused smile appeared on Valyr\'s face as Vaughn continued to talk.
"Riekan was the only one among their group to become a high-ranking member of the Gates of Enlightenment," said the man after jogging his memory a bit more. "Even had a shot at entering the Gates of Awakening." n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"In any case, there were a couple of groups aside from them that killed enough aberrations to obtain the Key Fragments. However, unlike that group, they either ignored the Key Fragments or did not even know the Key Fragments dropped from the aberrations."
Having to go on a short trip through memory lane, Vaughn took in a few deep breaths to compose himself before letting out a long exhale.
"So…"
"Any other questions?"
