Nightmares were ferocious beasts. The level nine nightmare went all out using a soul attack skill. The black horn on top of its head glowed and a halo was manifested. The grey aura was but a disguise.

The fire type element spirit was born in the Imperial City of the Abyss and did not have any complex combat experience. None of its inherent memories from ancient times contained anything regarding nightmares.

The volcano that the spirit was born and lived in was considered an outskirt of the city. The spirit that could be allowed to exist there was level 13 at the highest.

It had been in the outermost part of the city due to chasing Nailisi. If it had not been clad in the fire armor, it would be killed by the rules of the plane a long time ago.

The fire type element spirit retained combat capacity at level 13 and it was all due to its armor.

Nothing the nightmare did would be effective against it if the beast was attacking the body of the spirit directly. Even magic weapons were not able to pierce the fire type element spirit’s body, as they would simply be melted.

However, the halo on the nightmare’s horn shimmered and the fire type element spirit was hit squarely.

The reason ancient humans wanted to create a fire type element spirit was to create weapon spirits for equipment.

The best weapon spirit was born within equipment itself, as not only would it be powerful, there was also no emotional barrier between the user and the weapon, making possibilities of betrayal entirely non-existent.

Unless the equipment’s existing user ended up dead, the spirit within the equipment would not acknowledge another user.

A weapon spirit infused from outside, however, was different, as they had their own will, which needed to be forcefully suppressed before being able to serve the master of the equipment it was infused into.

The fire type element spirit was created by humans and lacked inherent strength. If it had not been for the fact that there were no longer powerful beings left in the Imperial City of the Abyss, it would need to be nurtured for over 10,000 years before being deemed suitable for use.

As such, the fire type element spirit was completely caught off-guard by the nightmare’s skill and did not have any ways to counter it. All four of the Warflag Doubles behind it wrapped around its body while the whip in its hand smacked the nightmare’s horn.

The grey shimmer was shattered and the beast’s horn was broken by the whip, taking a part of the nightmare’s forehead with it.

A nightmare’s horn was incredibly resilient and it was also the hardest part of the beast. The essence of the beast’s body rested on the horn as well. The horn snapped and hit the ground, and the nightmare shrieked terrifyingly before turning into grey mist, dispersed by the elements in the water and rendered dead.

The nightmare might have died but the skill continued to work. The fire type element spirit was plagued by a literal nightmare.

A strong body housing a weak soul was a fitting description of the fire type element spirit’s constitution. It was thrust into an illusion the moment the beast was killed.

The nightmare’s attack went straight for the weakest part of its target’s mind. Even if the target was far higher than the beast in level, the target would still suffer the consequences.

The only one to be practically immune to a nightmare’s ambush was if the person hit possessed an indomitable mind and had specifically trained to hone their mental powers, as how Saleen had been using his family badge to constantly enhance his mental abilities.

It was different in the case of the fire type element spirit. A weak mind belay its strong exterior. It would not be so easily angered and agitated enough to leave its ring of safety that was the volcano otherwise.

It would mean nothing for something like elemental beings to have underlings dying in scores. Such beings would hardly leave a place like the volcano if they had a place like that to live in the first place.

The illusion seen by the fire type element spirit was simple. It saw two humans walking towards it. They seemed to be the ones who created it. Both of them wore ferocious smirks as they extended their hands, intending to take it.

Its fire armor, Warflag Doubles, and chariots, did not matter in the illusion. Even the six flaming giant dragons were nowhere to be found. The fire type element spirit was not aware of any of that. It looked at its arms and legs, quickly finding its entire body shrinking.

It would be an extraordinary sight if someone witnessed it happening. A level 13 elemental being being attacked by a level nine nightmare, and the skill actually worked.

The fire type element spirit saw the two humans packing it into a box-like equipment, which consisted of 27 slots. Every slot contained a weapon spirit, assembled into a very complex three-dimensional space.

The 27 spaces crossed with each other and the spirits had to fight each to determine the victor, which would be made the core of the equipment and allowed to live.

The fire type element spirit threw itself into the slaughter without any hesitation, without any thought of resisting the two humans at all. If it had been strong of mind, the continuing illusions would not happen.

If it killed the two humans, the illusion would cease to exist. The two illusionary humans were not more powerful than the nightmare after all, and the spirit could actually just break the attack using brute force.

However, its weak mind made it so that it entirely lacked the courage to fight the two humans. In its illusion, it had been made by the two humans and they represented the most powerful beings in the world, capable of wiping it out of existence.

Resistance was futile and only by submitting to the will of its creators would it be able to carve out a path to survival by killing its own kind.

However, the path imagined would be folly instead. The two humans at the beginning of the illusion were created by the nightmare and they were only level ten. The following 26 of its kind were born out of the fire type element spirit’s own imagination, and every single one of them had level 13 powers.

If it left the illusion behind, it would need to wait for the nightmare’s skill to end while not killing any of its kind.

In the fire type element spirit’s perspective, it was lucky that the nightmare had been killed, as the skill would only last between half an hour to an hour. If the nightmare’s horn had been completely destroyed, the skill would end.

However, there was no one else to help destroy the remaining horn. The Vermillion Knights were over a thousand miles away.

The Vermillion Knights had no idea that something bad had happened to the fire type element spirit. They arrived where Nailisi had hidden herself and blocked the door.

The level 11 Vermillion Knights were all confused about the next course of action given that their master was not around.

“Let’s attack!” the Vermillion Knight roared. While their level was high, they had less intelligence than Flare, whom Saleen had subjugated.

“Is this the target?” another level 11 Vermillion Knight asked dismissively.

“Who cares. We’ll destroy it and look for our next target.” The Vermillion Knight who had suggested it answered, frustrated. Another dozen or so Vermillion Knights agreed to it.

“Well, let’s get to it then.”

The remaining Vermillion Knights answered indifferently seeing how no one was there to act as an effective leader. They were thinking that since their master decided to move on its own, it did not make any difference if they did anything; the enemy would end up dead anyway.

It did not matter if they killed the wrong target, as the abyss would be their master’s turf sooner or later.

The 36 Vermillion Knights mobilized over ten thousand of their subordinates and blocked the street off. After deciding to attack, the short-tempered Vermillion Knight led its subordinates personally and charged into the purgatory of the fallen.

Nailisi had been waiting for quite some time. The moment she saw a level 11 Vermillion Knight barging into the purgatory of the fallen, all 24 chains of the Shackles of the Fallen shot up and hauled the Vermillion Knight off its fire tiger steed.

The short-tempered Vermillion Knight did not end up using even one skill, as any that it had intended to use was suppressed. The Shackles of the Fallen pierced through its body, severe damaging it.

Nailisi had a decisive edge being inside the 12 Notes of the First Purgatory. She stood on the altar and looked down, as there was no need for her to fight personally. The one fighting the intruders was her double.

The level 11 Vermillion Knight did not possess an elemental shell, appearing only as an over 20 meter-tall elemental core clad in armor. It allowed Nailisi to take the Vermillion Knight without difficulty.

Furthermore, the Shackles of the Fallen had attributes, unlike the net that she was wielding. All powers of the Vermillion Knight were shackled once the chains pierced through its body, preventing it from using any skills.

Nailisi threw a resentful kick at the Vermillion Knight’s head, shattering it. Flames shot out wildly as a result. While the Vermillion Knight did not die, it was severely damaged.

Nailisi’s prowess at close combat was very powerful. The power of that one kick was something that not even the core of the Vermillion Knight was capable of withstanding.

She did not intend to let out her frustration with that kick, as she had simply wanted to completely cripple the Vermillion Knight. Nailisi, who was standing on the altar, drew a line in the air with her finger to open a portal, throwing the Vermillion Knight inside.

It was an ability unique to her. Every single space within the 12 Notes of First Purgatory was connected. However, all of the spaces were sealed off to anyone other than Nailisi.

Nailisi threw the crippled Vermillion Knight into the purgatory of elements, allowing the great fire snake to make short work of the severely damaged elemental creature.

The elemental creatures all had a master and Nailisi had no intentions of subjugating them. She simply let the great fire snake devour them.

More and more Vermillion Knights charged into the purgatory of the fallen. There were also living beings inside the purgatory of the fallen: the believers of the divine baby in the undersea temple.

The translucent blue beings were not of low level. They were only put under control by the divine baby’s original body chained by the Shackles of the Fallen, turning into the warriors of the purgatory of the fallen.

The low level Vermillion Knights were quickly surrounded by the fallen believers. The space inside the purgatory was very hostile to the Vermillion Knights. The believers were still as frenzied as they had been, and had no concern for their own wellbeing when fighting the Vermillion Knights.

The altar in the sky provided them with all the power they needed, enabling them to mend their broken bodies anytime.

Nailisi watched for any high level elemental creatures charging inside while being high above the sky. She immediately sent the chains flying at any level 11 Vermillion Knights charging in, catching them, breaking their core, then throwing them into the purgatory of elements.

The great fire snake in the purgatory of elements was extremely excited. It gobbled up any of the level 11 Vermillion Knights that Nailisi had crippled. Digestion was very easy as there was no way they could resist.

It had always been at a disadvantage fighting the Eye of the Storm. However, after having devoured more and more elemental creatures, the great fire snake felt its powers surpassing the Eye of the Storm.

Nailisi was not having an easy time with her battles. Her double needed to take on over ten thousand Vermillion Knights and 36 among them were level 11. Nailisi was unable to directly command the Shackles of the Fallen.

She needed to put in mental powers to control her double while battling the enemy. Her double would be unable to determine the enemy’s level and utterly incapable of locking onto specific targets otherwise.

Controlling the Shackles of the Fallen took a huge toll on energy consumption. The chains were very high level godly items to begin with, and the double needed breaks while commanding the chains.

Nailisi was afraid of losing her most powerful edge in battle, and dared not attack every single target with the Shackles of the Fallen. She resorted to watching the battles, preventing the purgatory of the fallen from being destroyed by one very powerful being.

Why is it not showing up even now?

Nailisi grew restless. Did it happen to run into Master? You better not underestimate that fellow then. That thing is definitely at least level 13. It wouldn’t have been able to control this many level 11 elemental beings otherwise.
