Chapter 178: Road to Liga NOS Champions 2019/20 V
As Jason fell, he watched the player pull away with the ball, but even a few seconds after falling, the whistle that was supposed to be blown when a foul was committed stayed silent and Jason immediately realized that the referee wasn’t going to be calling for a foul.
Half-annoyed, Jason stood up from the ground and began to move back towards the midfield.
Saying he was irritated by the referee’s actions was an understatement, but he also knew that this wasn’t the time to act up as it seemed the referee had it out for him despite him not having done anything to the guy.
It felt like Porto was playing against twelve players instead of 11 and It was very annoying, especially now that they were trying to turn a deficit into a win with time rapidly running out.
Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do but keep playing and do his best to help the team at least equalize the game.
With this thought in mind, Jason put his focus back into the game, but about ten minutes later he realized that he had clearly underestimated how much the referee probably disliked him as he had been fouled three more times and the referee hadn’t done as much as blow a whistle.
At this point, unless someone was blind, it was clear that the referee was biased against Jason, but no one could tell why, and neither could they do anything about it.77th minute…
Jason stood up yet again from the ground, having been tackled harshly to the ground yet again, but this time the referee blew a whistle, but he didn’t do anything else.
Jason’s ankle throbbed as that was where the player that had brought him down had hit him and he rubbed on it to try and relieve some of the soreness in the ankle, hoping it would end with soreness.
Standing back up, Jason moved to the side to allow Telles to prepare to take the free-kick.
Just like all their previous attempts at an attack, the free kick was blocked by the Desportivo das Aves defense that seemed to have gotten three times as tight ever since they conceded the earlier goal.
81st minute…
The Desportivo das Aves team had gotten a corner and the players of both teams were shuffling around inside of the Porto 18-yard box while waiting for the cross from the Desportivo das Aves player that stood over the corner.
*Fweeeeee*
At the sound of the referee’s whistle, the ball was swung into the box and the players of both the Porto team and the Desportivo das Aves team jumped to catch it off their heads, but Pepe, the captain of the Porto team got his head to the ball first and tried to clear the ball with his header.
The ball bounced off of Pepe’s head and flew out of the 18-yard box and towards the left side of the Porto half of the field.
Seeing the flight path of the ball, Jason who was at the edge of the box burst out after the ball eager to get to the ball first as almost everyone was in the Porto 18-yard box so this was the best time to start a counterattack.
The nearest Desportivo das Aves player who saw Jason’s intentions immediately crashed into Jason, trying to slow him down, but Jason managed to regain his footing after almost falling and continued after the ball, finally managing to reach the ball.
On reaching the ball, Jason kicked the ball forward out of range of a Desportivo das Aves who was sliding at him, and jumped over the player before chasing after the ball.
The counterattack had begun and Jason dashed toward the Desportivo das Aves goal as fast as he could, making it past the halfway line of the field in less than two seconds and continuing his charge at the opponents’ goal.
There were still two Desportivo das Aves players in his path, but Jason diverted his run and moved a bit towards the left, not wanting to slow down to dribble as that could end the goal-scoring chance.
The Desportivo das Aves players seeing Jason change direction immediately changed their position and gave chase, but Jason’s change in direction had bought him enough time to get past the players before they could reach him and the players had to start chasing him from behind.
Seeing that he had gotten away from the players, Jason had continued bearing down on the goal, but surprisingly, the Desportivo das Aves goalkeeper was less than four yards away from him.
It seemed like the goalkeeper had come off his goal line ever since he had seen Jason coming at him and because Jason was focusing on the two players in his way, he had not noticed until the goalkeeper was already almost right before him, but he didn’t lose his composure and tapped the ball to chip it over towards the left and out of the reach of the goalkeeper who had slid at him.
With the ball out of the reach of the goalkeeper, Jason jumped over the goalkeeper’s outstretched leg escaping his challenge, but the Desportivo das Aves goalkeeper wasn’t planning on letting Jason just get away and his arm lashed out, trying to grab Jason’s leg.
Unfortunately for the goalkeeper, he missed but still hit Jason’s leg and caused Jason to stumble to the ground and fall.
Even though the actions of the goalkeeper could potentially lead to a red card, Jason wasn’t planning to wait around when the goal was within his reach, so immediately he fell over, he rolled and pushed hard at the ground barely managing to get back to his feet and go after the ball.
Due to falling over, the two players managed to catch up and they double-teamed Jason, trying to hassle him off the ball with one on each side.
The player on Jason’s right grabbed his shirt and tried to pull him down, but Jason’s hand immediately lashed behind at the player’s hand, trying to smack off the player’s hand as he had had it with being fouled.
Due to him not looking back, he missed the player’s hand and hit the player’s chest instead, but it had the required effect as the player released the grip on his jersey, and immediately he felt the player’s grip releasing, Jason kicked the ball into the empty goal.
Not stopping his run, he immediately took off down toward the sideline, but before he could even take three steps, he heard the shrill sound of the whistle being blown which was surprising.
He hadn’t passed anybody the ball so he couldn’t be offside, right?
This thought went through Jason’s head as he turned around to see what was going on, only to see the referee running at him.
‘What now?’ Jason was wondering internally until the referee stopped in front of him and pulled out a yellow card from his breast pocket and booked him before following up with a red card from his back pocket.
