Chapter 97: Chapter 28: Lancelot's Determination [2]

\'To think I spent more than 50 Avalon Gold on each of my Royal Guard, let\'s hope Morgana didn\'t find out...\'

Since his village was now classed as a Town and able to summon a part of his army inside Avalon, he was granted access to the neutral traders who lived in the plains between worlds.

He bought all the items today as a special gift.

\'It\'s bad for Meru, but I asked her to let Lumiel take command in battle rather than giving her the Captain of the Royal Guard title... she is Vice-Captain and will lead the Frost Hares as she knows their personalities and battle style best.

"Let\'s go."

Lancelot spoke to them, all stepping off the wall with a steep drop near the southwest of their town and headed towards the entrance around two thousand metres away, wrapped inside a little nook.

At first, he planned to use the lesser drake to deter enemies of a low level, but now found himself hunting the drake in an ironic turn of events.

[I... I was just angry. Don\'t go!]

Morgana only said the words with half seriousness, never expecting Lancelot to take them at face value. Yet he did, now heading to fight a dragon and not taking her with him.

She knew it was to prove himself, but Morgana only spoke out of frustration at herself for having such a body, and it was easiest to blame him... though, even as he left her behind, the thought that she should have stopped him was strong, even as her head pounded like crazy.

However, she also had her pride as a succubus, a demon born and trained by her mother to become a royal consort who supported the next King of Avalon after her father passed.

Torn between that pride and her growing love for Lancelot, she chose the prior...

Only to instantly feel regret.

\'Do not sound so sad or worried. I will surpass you, surpass those old fools who plot against me.\'

\'And I will surpass your father.\'

Lancelot had small clues about her father, and once he learned about him being the former king of Avalon, a desire to surpass him began to build in his chest.

It was the first time Lancelot wanted to excel at something other than the sword; he wanted to become the strongest.

But he could not tell if he was or could see it until Morgana confirmed he was better.

Her words helped him find his strength and path, and the goal was now to surpass her father, to reach the point where Morgana looked at him the way she looked at her father, with sparkling eyes and an enraptured voice.

"Halt!"

Lancelot stopped them, looking back as his stone walls, raven black matching the hidden citadel, now looked smaller. He looked at the Royal Guard with a sweeping eye.

"Take a moment before we push further; there are countless enemies from the moment we enter."

The knights all took a neat stance, with the petite Meru looking adorable, being more than a head shorter than the others, as they started to confirm their gear, potions, armour and weapon conditions.

Lancelot did this out of slight nerves and not wanting there to be any accidents.

He slid his long greatsword from the black leather sheath while the golden eye in his left socket began to shimmer and shine, the stars dancing as he examined his items and gear.

[Greatsword of Dragon Slaying]

Strength + 10

Vitality + 10

Damage to dragons + 30%

A sword crafted by a dwarven blacksmith who was born in the magical lands of Avalon, his home and family destroyed by a black dragon in the north.

This sword was one of many that he created and supplied to various Lords, hoping they could kill the beast. Yet the Adult Dragon Vol\'sfar still lives to this day.

[Sense Dragonkind]

[Detect Vol\'sfar]

-

[Dragonscale Leather Armour]

Strength + 5

Agility + 5

Vitality + 15

Damage reduced by 25%

Resistance to flames + 30%

A high-quality armour created from the dragons slain by the swords of a famous dwarven blacksmith, Baldin. His reverent hatred for the race-inspired his wife, who crafted the armour with the same purpose.

To avenge her new husband\'s lost family.

\'These weapons were so expensive, though... I am a bit poor now due to upgrading the archery range to the third level, but heavy crossbows and catapults are too strong.\'

It also boosted all damage with bows in his territory by over thirty percent.

"All good?"

Lancelot looked at his troops, who all stood silently, their dark sheen glistening in the sunlight. He bought the same series but a slightly cheaper armour for them, which only reduced damage and flames but lacked increased strength and agility.

"Yes, Your Highness."

\'These women...\'

He nodded with a smile.

"Okay, let\'s begin. Remember, if it moves, kill it."

The sixteen-person group marched forward over the hard, crumbling gravel and dried earth. It seemed behind his town was a dangerous time bomb, and he would alleviate most of the danger now.

Holding his greatsword and black dragon-scale armour, they entered the huge opening in the mountain\'s little nook, hidden away from prying eyes.

His only hope was to keep the creatures deep inside the cavern and not attack other places, so he sighed as he wondered if this plan could succeed.

\'Woosh!\'

The noise of the air made Lancelot stop the group and step to the side.

\'It\'s not fast?\'

A green creature with the upper half of a woman, the lower a snake, appeared as Lancelot narrowed his eye on its scale-like body and skin that covered her large breasts.

He looked into the amber eyes of the Lamia and wondered where they could have gone wrong.

The Lamia looked at him, her mind still processing the events.

She was hunting a small, delicious creature and then saw an enormous amount of life come into the nest and move towards the sound, and then this group arrived, walking straight past her.

"Food! Mine! Kill!"

Her voice was shrill, the group confused.

\'Food?\'

Lancelot felt sorry for the snake woman, and that pity could be seen on his face as he noticed the creature bleeding on the ground, likely her food.

He nodded to the Lamia before turning away and heading further into the dark cave, only illuminated by the flames billowing deeper inside like a churning magma pool.

"Wait..."

The Lamia spoke in shock as the group passed her.

"Go and eat, please."

He waved a hand towards the Lamia, and they headed deep, her eyes watching the strange people move into the caves, her tail flickering before she grabbed the creature and slithered away as fast as she could.

"It was that easy..."

But as they got closer to the flames and lava pools, his regret died, his heart starting to beat faster, his left eye twitching.

\'A dungeon.\'

That thought came as he spotted the monsters moving down the narrow pathway to the huge cave and flowing lava pits.

There were ten varieties, but only those near the entrance came in large groups; the deeper he went, the smaller the numbers and greater the levels, though all were still below fifty.

The stronger creatures stayed further within the cavern.

\'Mm, are dungeons formed from too many or strong creatures?\'

However, he didn\'t have time to think because a huge group of giant centipedes lunged from the ground towards them, with molten lava dripping from their bodies.

"To arms!" Lumiel shouted, her body enveloped in golden light, followed by the angels doing the same.

"Let\'s go!" Vellen and Lusia chanted in tandem, causing the succubi to glow with dark energies

while Meru and the Frost Hares didn\'t power up but lunged at the enemies and dropkicked the front three centipedes... busting their skulls from two Hares hitting the same spot...

Their group\'s ability and coordination were astonishing as Lancelot watched from the rear, feeling proud of his Royal Guard.

\'I need to do the same!\'

He ran into the enemies with a grin, cutting an arc around himself. The magma from the centipede just dribbled around him in a crescent moon shape, missing his body completely, while his black sword just looked moulted red, not showing any damage from the heat of the centipede\'s flaming carapace.

\'A level thirty-eight monster has such a weak attack; what is it made from?!\'

It was his turn to take action, and he didn\'t want the battle to last too long as more could appear from the dark recess.

His left eye flickered with divine light, showing him both the weak spot and attributes of the centipedes, his body feeling a warmth seep.

\'Detect Essence\'

The first time he used the ability of his Divine Eye, it took him by surprise, showing him the details of his target.

"Found you."

Lancelot aimed his blade, the energy and excitement flowing through his veins, and slashed outwards.

A huge wind current was sent forth, his greatsword swinging and spinning as the sharp crescent of energy cut a bloody path through the enemies, removing their heads and limbs.

Lumiel and the angels also attacked with their swords and shields, their movements looking like dancing stars.

Even the Frost Hare and Succubi fought on an even level.

It was a glorious and easy first battle as Lancelot\'s horde of brutal women easily devoured the poor centipedes.
