Chapter 258: - She is Working Alone?

"Igor," he called.

"Yes, My Lord," Igor responded promptly.

"Please arrange the shifts for guarding the city gate and patrolling the town."

"Yes, My Lord."

Following Broken\'s orders, Karl and Yann were assigned to stay behind at the city gate, taking turns guarding it as instructed by Igor. Ingrid and Igor began patrolling the town, while Anna and Damir joined Broken\'s group heading to the House of Slumdon.

They quickly resumed their journey, following Yara, who seemed cheerful and enthusiastic as she guided them through the streets of Slumdon.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

[Yara, the Maid of the House of Slumdon, has been added to your list of employees by default.]

[You have inherited her from the previous city lord, and it is now your responsibility to manage her and pay her wages.]

[Name: Yara]

[Level: 32]

[Strength: 32 | Agility: 75 | Intelligence: 121 | Constitution: 65 | Stamina: 72]

[Job: Maid]

[Salary: 0 Gold | 15 Silver]

[Efficient Housekeeping (A) - Creative Decorator (B) - Melodic Performer (A) - Spell Mastery (B) - Body Language Reader (C) - Green Thumb (D)]

Broken inspected Yara\'s status and noticed that her level wasn\'t too low for a maid. It was 32.

Then he glanced through the list of talents available from the maid.

[Efficient Housekeeping: Completes household chores with remarkable speed and precision, freeing up time for other tasks.]

Her first talent, with an A score, was Efficient Housekeeping, which suited her job perfectly.

[Melodic Performer: Lifts spirits and boosts morale through enchanting musical performances.]

Melodic Performer? She could sing too? It reminded Broken of Ivana, who also had a talent for singing, as she had shown during her performance with Starfall. Yara was truly intriguing, harboring such an A-rating talent while working as a maid.

Another talent, Creative Decorator, Adds artistic flair to the town\'s decor and aesthetics, enhancing its visual appeal. It was also quite fitting for her current job.

[Spell Mastery: Reduces the casting time or mana cost of spells.]

But, Spell Mastery? A maid with the potential to be a Mage? It made sense, considering Yara\'s high Intelligence stat.

Just inspecting one employee had given Broken valuable insight into the people of this town. Now, he just needed to assign them tasks that matched their talents to ensure they performed their best.

For Yara, she indeed had potential in Magic and singing, but for now, her role as a maid was suitable.

He then pondered after checking the salary for the girl. Why is the salary for this job so low? Is this what the previous lord was paying? he wondered slowly.

"It looks like I\'ll have to raise the salary rate for her, considering the responsibility she holds," he thought, noting that she was currently the only one working in the House of Slumdon.

"So, Yara," Broken began, turning to her.

"Yes, my Lord," Yara replied politely.

"Can you tell me what really happened to this town? Where did the former lord go?"

Yara took a deep breath before explaining, "My Lord, this town has been in decline for many years now. The economy has been plummeting, and food is becoming increasingly scarce. This has caused many of its citizens to suffer from starvation. Furthermore, the previous lord abandoned this place. However, there are still many people who remain here, as they have nowhere else to go."

Broken slowly nodded as he listened to her explanation. "It\'s amazing that this town has been able to survive and function without a city lord for such a long period of time," he remarked.

Freya then added her thoughts, "But that\'s also why this town has an F rating, right?"

He nodded to her words. "There\'s a lot of work that needs to be done," he said.

"Happy? Sad?"

"Very enthusiastic!"

"That\'s a workaholic for you."

"Ah, this town is so boring!" came a high-pitched voice from behind. It was Melliandra.

"That\'s why we need to rebuild the city, Mel," Kingsley replied.

"It would be easier to just destroy this city and start fresh. I can\'t stand looking at the faces of those foolish townspeople. It makes me want to shoot them with my rifle!" she said loudly. Broken and Freya turned to look, but Elincia, who was also there, made a face that clearly said to ignore the kid throwing a tantrum.

After some time, they finally reached their destination, The House of Slumdon.

It was a large building surrounded by a tall, gray stone fence. Inside, there was a large, open area with dry, barren ground. The large house stood proudly before them, its black stone and brown wood façade reflecting the sunlight. It was tall and well-maintained, with six or seven stories that appeared to be in good condition.

The windows were clean, and the door looked freshly painted. Even though Yara worked alone, the house was a testament to her hard work and dedication.

Broken turned to Yara and asked, "Are you sure you\'re working alone in the House of Slumdon?"

Yara solemnly replied, "Yes, my Lord. But please don\'t replace me. I work hard and do my best, and you can see for yourself the condition of the house. I hope you\'re satisfied with my work." Her voice carried a slight tinge of fear.

Broken nodded slowly and smiled. "You don\'t need to worry. I\'m just amazed that you work alone in such a large place, yet you manage to keep it so well-maintained."

Yara paused for a moment as she processed his words, looking genuinely surprised by the

tone.

"Why?" Broken asked softly.

Suddenly, Yara burst into tears, catching everyone\'s attention. She tried to stifle her sobs, lowering her head in an attempt to hide her emotions.

"I don\'t know, I just feel like crying... You treated me so kindly. You didn\'t get angry or punish me... I\'m so happy... Forgive me, My Lord, I can\'t hold back these feelings," she finally said, lifting her face to meet Broken\'s gaze.

With a gentle pat on her shoulder, Broken said. "It\'s alright. Now, why don\'t you show us the house? Everyone\'s eager to rest."

"Yes, My Lord..." Yara nodded, wiping her tears. They continued walking, and it wasn\'t long before Ivana caught up to Yara, taking her hand gently.

"Hey, you must be exhausted after working so hard. Let me help you from now on, okay?" Ivana offered warmly.

"Huh?" Yara stopped in her tracks, startled by Ivana\'s words. Tears welled up again. "Are you

replacing me?"

"No, no, no..." Ivana hurried to explain. "I just want to help, okay? I\'m not taking your job."

"Are you sure? Thank you..." Yara responded, still in disbelief. "I\'m just surprised by how kind

you all are."

Ivana giggled at Yara\'s words. "Yes, everyone is kind, and the Lord is kind too."

With a nod, Yara began to smile again. The entire group fell silent, witnessing the heartwarming interaction between Ivana and Yara, almost like a mother and daughter sharing

a tender moment.

"The town is so boring, everyone here is boring," Melliandra grumbled from the back.

"Quiet, Mel," Kingsley said softly.
