“What do you want?” Su Yu said dismissively. She tucked Lin Qingqing’s arm, gesturing her not to act rashly—they still didn’t know the purpose of her visit.

Chu Yaoyao grinned. “I heard you were in an accident, so I’m visiting you. It looks like you’re speaking fine. Phew, what a relief.”

“You? Relief?” Lin Qingqing rolled up her sleeves. “Cut the crap. Nothing good ever come out of you.”

A b*tch would always be a b*tch, and Chu Yaoyao was the b*tchiest of them all. Lin Qingqing stood in front of the bed protectively, and her eyes full of hostility. It was to prevent the intruder from coming any closer.

Yet, without any hint of uneasiness, Chu Yaoyao bent down, relaxed, to place the fruit basket on the ground. “Here’s a little something from Yunian and me since we’re getting married shortly. Get well soon,” she lowered her head and let out a faint smile.

“Stop it. You’re disgusting!” Lin Qingqing kicked the basket away, glaring at the girl with all rage. What if she had poisoned the fruit?

“Ms. Chu, I’ll need you to leave at once, or I’ll call security.” Su Chen stepped forward to shield Lin Qingqing.

Embarrassed, Chu Yaoyao frowned, her gaze stuck on the girl on the bed. She laughed, “You’ll give us your blessing, won’t you?”

No one knew where those words came from, and Chu Yaoyao was a crackbrain. She and Fu Yunian had the same dogmatism—birds of a feather did flock together, it seemed.

“Sure. Here’s to a long and happy marriage and congratulations,” Su Yu beamed.

Chu Yaoyao was annoyed at her lack of jealousy—was she as indifferent as she seemed, or was it all a show?

If she was pretending, then—

Chu Yaoyao gave them an eerie smile before leaving the ward. The instant she closed the door, Lin Qingqing opened the window to the room for ventilation. “Oh my god. That perfume odor! I thought I’d suffocate back there. I never knew Fu Yunian’s into this kind of gal.”

It set Su Yu off laughing, her gloomy mood brightened. “Who cares? It’s got nothing to do with me.”

“Are you sure you’re over him?” Su Chen studied his sister’s eyes carefully, looking for any trace of deception.

Su Yu flinched. Just as she was about to answer him, his phone rang—it was their father, and she got agitated. “Please don’t tell mom and dad, Chen. Please!” She broke down, tugging the corner of his shirt.

Resigning to his fate, Su Chen promised her.

On the other end of the line, Su Zhenyuan asked about how his daughter was doing. Once he was sure her condition was stable, he told them that he was still on holiday with their mother. They’d be back in a month.

When Su Yu cued him with eye contact to finish up, he hung up after speaking for a few more minutes.

“That scared the hell out of me, Chen. You know dad—he’s always attentive,” she sighed.

“Yeah. So you stay here, okay?” Su Chen chuckled, patting his sister on the head. “I’ve got to go—office duties. It’s a relief knowing Qingqing would be here with you.”

Once Su Chen had left, Lin Qingqing shut the door tight.. “Something doesn’t add up, Yu.”
